Ashley Lindsey is a choreographer, director, and educator known for his innovative movement style, dynamic artistic vision, and dedication to mentoring performers. After sixteen years in NYC, he relocated to Los Angeles, where he continues to create work for the stage, screen, and live performance.
His commissions and collaborations include works for Charlotte Ballet II, Limón II, Flight Path Dance Project, UNCSA, Chapman University, Greensboro Opera’s Porgy and Bess featuring Grammy Award winner Rhiannon Giddens, and commercial campaigns for Procter & Gamble featuring supermodel Miranda Kerr, along with numerous dance films and theatrical performances. Ashley also worked closely with three-time Tony Award winner Hinton Battle across a variety of theatrical and commercial projects and served as Executive Director of Battle’s national dance convention, DanzOff.
Ashley is the Artistic Director of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) Classical Ballet and Contemporary Summer Dance Intensives, and Dance Connection Now, a pre-professional summer training program. As an educator, he has been a guest artist at Elon, Duke, and Chapman Universities, Escuela Superior de Danza Sinaloa, The Limón Foundation, Steps on Broadway, Kanyok Arts Initiative, and completed a two-year residency as a visiting professor at UNCSA.
Additional teaching credits include workshops in Japan, Mexico, Bermuda, and China.
He co-founded GXA CREATIVE with longtime collaborator Grady Bowman. Together, they create work for a variety of creative spaces. Their dance films, DWELLING, LIKE SUGAR, and The Way Back, have been official selections at numerous film festivals, including BronzeLens, Dance Camera West, and ADF’s Movies By Movers, and have been featured on Dancefilmmaking.com and DanceMagazine.com.
Additional credits include the film Bolden, New York Fashion Week, and national commercials for Target and ESPN.
A former member of the Limón Dance Company, he performed across five continents in featured works by José Limón. He later danced with The Lar Lubovitch Dance Company and Helen Simoneau Danse.
Creating for film, stage, and live performance is about pushing the boundaries of movement, emotion, and physicality to craft visually compelling stories that resonate deeply with audiences. As an educator, I empower my students to find their authentic voices and inspire a curiosity that transcends technique.
